THE ART OF JERRY WRAY: A CELEBRATION

Louisiana Secretary of State, Kyle Ardoin and LSEM Friends announce the opening of an exhibit of original artworks, The Art of Jerry Wray: A Celebration.  The retrospective exhibit will begin in the West Wing Gallery on Sunday, September 8th 2019 with a reception from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Light refreshments will be served.  The exhibit will continue until September 26, 2019 Monday-Friday during regular museum hours 9 am – 4 pm.

The Art of Jerry Wray:  A Celebration is a Retrospective of works in watercolor and acrylic on paper, canvas, and driftwood by Shreveport artist Jerry Wray (1925-2018).  It will include works from this prolific artist and teacher. The exhibit is curated by Wray’s daughter, Mary Virginia Hill, who is also a talented watercolor artist.

Entering college at Randolph-Mason Women’s College in Lynchberg Virginia, Wray knew she would be an artist after her first art class.  “I fell in love with it and I knew – this is it,” remembered Wray, who won an award for her progress in class.  She then transferred to the prestigious art department at Newcomb College in New Orleans, where her senior project was exhibited at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Wray held membership in the National Watercolors Society, the National Association of Women Artists and the International Association of International Artists.  Wray loved the outdoors and painted, “to express my love for nature and the beauty in the world.”  She also generously shared her knowledge and experiences and her joyful enthusiasm with many artists.

The Art of Jerry Wray: A Celebration exhibit will be on display in the West Wing Gallery until September 26, 2019. The public is invited to view the exhibit during regular museum hours: Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. The museum is located at 3015 Greenwood Road, between Hearne and Jewella Streets.
