SUMMARY:K-M-R - We Are Art
DESCRIPTION:Secretary of State Kyle Ardoin and the Friends of LSEM announce the opening of an extraordinary art exhibit of three regional artists\, Karen LaBeau\, Maria Markell and Ron Smith.  The K-M-R -We Are Art Exhibition of abstract oil paintings and nature photography will open on Sunday\, January 12\, 2020 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. with an artists’ reception.  Light refreshments will be served.  \nAccording to Ron Smith\, who paints realistic landscapes of Belcher in North Caddo alongside linear abstract images inspired by music\, “My art is not only a reflection of my past or present\, but a combination of both.  My experiences are brought to life through my art\, which evolves constantly.”   \n“It was a hurricane and five feet of water that mostly made Karen LaBeau an artist. She moved with her family to Shreveport and it is the stories of her life that make up her colorful abstract paintings.” \nMoving from North Carolina to Shreveport\, Maria Markell is a trained Artist and Photographer. She received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Art from Wingate University.  “My love affair with photography began when I was a small child. After receiving my first camera for my 9th birthday\, I would run around and photograph everything. These days I enjoy creating images that show subjects that may have gone unnoticed in our fast-paced world.” \nThe K-M-R Exhibition will be on display  in the West Wing Gallery from January 12\, 2020 through Saturday February 29\, 2020.

SUMMARY:Talbot Hopkins and Julie Miller Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:            \nSecretary of State Kyle Ardoin and the Friends of LSEM announce the opening of an extraordinary art exhibit of two of Shreveport’s most prominent local and regional artists – Julie Miller and Talbot Hopkins.  The Exhibition of oil paintings and graphic works\, will open on Sunday\, October 13\, 2019 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. with an artists’ reception.  Light refreshments will be served. \nSince childhood\, Talbot Hopkins has produced portraits\, still-lifes\, landscapes\, and abstract work in oil\, watercolor\, and other media.  She completed art courses at Centenary College in Shreveport\, Sophie Newcomb College/Tulane University\, New Orleans and University of Texas\, Austin. \nAccording to Hopkins\, “Art represents to me one of the greatest pursuits and achievements of mankind.  I have always been drawn to human faces. Outside the realm of portraiture\, my art consists mostly of still-lifes because they are realistic\, yet possess a subtle degree of surrealism.  I believe these pieces reflect my love of beauty–especially that found in nature–as well as a subconscious and conscious desire for peace and simplicity.” \nJulie Miller first started painting in college\, but decided to pursue a career and raise a family.  Then she participated in workshops and studied with Robin Clawson and Dave Ivey.  Julie’s interests include portraiture and architecture and now expansive landscapes. Her paintings are in private collections across the country. \nThe Talbot Hopkins and Julie Miller Exhibition will be on display in the West Wing Gallery from October 13\, 2019 until Friday November 8\, 2019. The public is invited to view the exhibit during regular museum hours: Monday through Friday\, 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. The museum is located at 3015 Greenwood Road\, between Hearne and Jewella Streets.

SUMMARY:MARKS IN TIME: DYSON-REANS-SOFFER
DESCRIPTION:The Friends of LSEM announce the opening of an extraordinary art exhibit of three prominent local and regional artists – Alan Dyson\, Anthony Reans and Ellen Soffer.  Marks in Time\, an exhibit of paintings and multimedia works\, will open on Sunday\, June 2\, 2019 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. with an artists’ reception.  Light refreshments will be served. \nEach artist interprets his own work within the parameter of the title of the exhibit – Marks in Time. \nAlan Dyson is an award winning multidisciplinary artist and singer-songwriter.  “My work is in response to materials\, environments\, concepts or events.  I often collaborate with musicians\, visual artists\, and multi-disciplinary innovators.  Together we create\, develop\, enhance and construct unique objects\, environments and experiences.” \nAnthony Reans creates abstract compositions that concentrate on the connections between balance\, space\, surface\, and relationship.  “My work is like most other formal Op Art\, in that it deals with the nature of subjective reality\, interconnectedness\, spatial relations\, and perception.  I cover the surfaces of my panels with colorful pinstripes\, which creates tension.” \nEllen Soffer uses abstract compositional elements intuitively. “The use of small marks to create pattern and intensity of color is an important aspect of many of the paintings.  My intention is that the paintings evoke feelings left behind by a dream\, an emotion\, or a memory…” \nMarks in Time:  Dyson – Reans – Soffer will be on display in the West Wing Gallery from June 2\, 2019 until Friday June 28\, 2019. The public is invited to view the exhibit during regular museum hours: Monday through Friday\, 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. The museum is located at 3015 Greenwood Road\, between Hearne and Jewella Streets.
