LOUISIANA STATE EXHIBIT MUSEUM PRESENTS 34th ANNUAL GREENING
Begin this holiday season at the Louisiana State Exhibit Museum (LSEM) in Shreveport, Louisiana. Director Thomas Carmody, and the Friends of the Louisiana State Exhibit Museum announces the 34th Annual Greening of the Louisiana State Exhibit Museum on Friday, December 1, 2023, from 8:30 a.m. until 12:00 noon. This year’s theme is “Native American Tribes of Louisiana .”
Every year LSEM invites third grade students from Caddo Parish schools to the museum for a day of holiday celebration. Students enjoy the traditional tree decorating contest in which classes from each school will decorate a tree in this years’ theme with ornaments they have constructed in art class. After decorating their tree, students will enjoy a performance of “A Visit with PawPaw Texada” by a local actor, a hands-on project and snack. The morning ends with the announcement of the holiday tree contest winners, which will be judged and awarded a first prize of $150, a second prize of $100, a third prize of $75, and a fourth prize of $50.
The museum holiday tree and the students’ trees will remain on display throughout the holiday season. This year we will have a popular vote by visitors and the winner will receive a $50 gift card, so stop by and vote for your favorite tree. The public is invited to view these holiday tidings during regular museum hours: Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. The museum will be closed Dec. 26th, 2023 for the holidays. The museum is located at 3015 Greenwood Road, between Hearne Avenue and Jewella Street.
Admission is free and tours are available by appointment. For more information about the Louisiana State Exhibit Museum and the Secretary of State’s museums program, please visit our Web site at http://www.sos.louisiana.gov/museums.or www.laexhibitmuseum.org.
