The Friends of LSEM, Inc. announce the opening of an extraordinary exhibit of the Hoover Watercolor Society. The Annual Juried Show, will open on Sunday, September 16, 2018 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. with an artists’ reception and Awards Presentation. Light refreshments will be served.
The Hoover Watercolor Society member show will be on display through October 19, 2018. The staff of the museum invites the public to view the exhibit during regular museum hours: Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. The museum is located at 3015 Greenwood Road.
Criteria for inclusion in the show are that all works must be original in concept and completed since June 2017. Judging the show will be Anthony Reans, a native of Angleton, Texas, now living in Shreveport. Following a tour in the Air Force, Tony enrolled in graphic arts at LSUS, but changed to traditional drawing and painting techniques. “I’ve painted steadily on, creating multiple concurrent series, from pop art to illustrations, to abstract landscapes, and now, after earning my MA in fine art, I’m creating my mature work in purely abstract compositions.”
Artist participating in this year’s show include Dawn Ash, Christine Bailey, Jacquelyn Bell, Bill Bryant, Martha Desoto, Judy Horne, Donna McGee, Frances O’Callaghan, Julia Raring, Jeannie Marie Reed, Denise Sanders, Sherri Skrivanos and Sue Strickland.
Nita Cole, the museum’s curator said. “We are so excited that some of the show reflects North Louisiana’s artistic traditions. The Hoover Society grew out of the Shreveport Art Club under Louis Sicard in 1958 and named in honor of artist and teacher Sidney Hoover.”
