SHREVEPORT, La. — Secretary of State Kyle Ardoin invites the public to attend an exhibit of Essence &
Form: Works of Art by Gwen Norsworthy, Christine Bailey and Janet Maines at the Louisiana State Exhibit Museum. The exhibit will be on display from Jan. 9 through Feb. 4, and will open with a small reception on Sunday, Jan. 9, 2022 from 2-4 p.m. Local residents and visitors are invited to meet the artists, view the exhibit in the West Wing Gallery and enjoy light refreshments provided the Friends of the Louisiana State Exhibit Museum.
Gwen Norsworthy began her painting career with traditional figurative and still life, then moved to a deeper examination of color theory. Her later series, “Signs and Symbols,” consists of paintings, drawings, and three-dimensional forms activated by graphic presentations. Christine Bailey and her husband opened a fine art gallery in Downtown Shreveport, and this led to the desire to create her own art. She studied under Jerry Wray for many years. Janet Maines is a graphic designer who also creates graphite, charcoal and pastel portraits.
The museum is located at 3015 Greenwood Road, Shreveport, La. 71109, between Hearne and Jewella streets. Admission is free and tours are available by appointment.
