LOUISIANA STATE EXHIBIT MUSEUM TO PRESENT PROJECT TALENT:

THE ARK GROUP EXHIBIT

Louisiana Secretary of State, Kyle Ardoin and the Louisiana State Exhibit Museum announce the opening of an extraordinary exhibit of Caddo Parish students’ art , Project Talent.   The Summer Art show will open with a reception honoring artists and their teachers on Sunday, June 6, 2021, from 2 to– 4 p.m. 

The show will offer a variety of paintings on canvas and paper in Prisma colored pencil, mixed media, acrylic, and handmade pottery for sale. The group project is The Ark, showcases pairs of animals and species museum curator Nita Cole stated. “We are excited about giving students experience in preparing for a professional exhibition and the opportunity to display their work in a museum setting.” 

In 1975 Caddo Parish School System Art Supervisor, Henry Price developed “Project Talent” as an enrichment program for those high school students who excelled in the visual arts. This after-school program targets those students who plan to pursue a career in the arts.  “Project Talent” meets weekly in a studio setting taught by Caddo Magnet High School art teachers Shirlene Alexander and Curtis Bias.  

The program also includes students from C.E. Byrd, Captain Shreve and Huntington high schools.  This year’s exhibition of The Ark will feature paired animals by student artists with 2-dimensional work under the direction of Shirlene Alexander and will include projects from 2020 and 2021.  Participating students include  Elijah Boston, Abigail Boykin, Savannah Brister, Hailey Brown, Lydia Clark, Charity Costanza, Cameron Drury, Riley Edgell, Anne Michelle Erwin, Hannah Francis, Katie Funk, Sloan Hall, Anna Pryce Hardtner, Mia James, Johnathan Jones, Daisy Kallenberg, Michael Landry, Yuting Lin, Bella Mainiero, Alex Martinez, Rachel McCauslin, Anna Miley, Kayleigh Mizzell, Robyn Myres, Alexis Nuban, Savannah Rust, Madison Savoie, Laura Sharlow, Kianna Smith, Noel Todd, Sidney Trundle, America Villagomez, Ayanna Watson, Charlotte White and Morgan White.

Pottery teacher Curtis Bias will present students who have created 3-dimensional abstract sculpture and figural images, choosing their own focus for their work.  Participating students include Kassidy Adams, Jamare Kai Boult, Ava Collins, Lillie Edwards, Evelyn Grimes, Vivian Holman, Breana Sanchez and Autumn Tipton.

Project Talent will be displayed in the West Wing Gallery from June 6,  through June 25, 2021. The public is invited to view the exhibit during regular museum hours: Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The museum is located at 3015 Greenwood Road, between Hearne and Jewella streets.
