ART & SOULS: Two of a Kind

June 5, 2017 @ 9:00 am - June 30, 2017 @ 4:00 pm

Gibbens, The Cello

Secretary of State Tom Schedler and the Friends of LSEM announce the opening of an extraordinary two person art exhibit, Art and Souls: Two of a Kind at the Louisiana State Exhibit Museum. The reception will be held on Sunday June 4, 2017 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Gibbens was a brilliant “autodidactic” artist who was the very embodiment of the term eccentric artist. He was also a true Renaissance man as well, in that he was not only an accomplished painter, but a gifted composer and writer. In addition to landscapes, he also created a spirited series of portraits of area musicians that will be a part of this show.

Duke’s vibrant landscape art is achieved with oils and palette knives. Gibbens’ work is much the same stylistically, as the couple were constant inspirations for each other. Ms. Duke continues to be a prolific professional artist with commissions and personal work being created and exhibited locally, regionally and nationally.

Together the couple are truly “two of a kind” but uniquely one of a kind themselves. Don’t miss this exhilarating exhibition. Ms. Duke will be in attendance.

Art and Souls: Two of a Kind exhibit will be on display on the west wing gallery from June 4, 2017 until Friday June 30, 2017. The public is invited to view the exhibit during regular museum hours: Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. The museum is located at 3015 Greenwood Road, between Hearne and Jewella Streets
