Charity’s Children: The Long Days and Nights of the Iron Men

October 24, 2021 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm

LOUISIANA STATE EXHIBIT MUSEUM TO HOST

BOOK SIGNING WITH JAMES CIARAVELLA, MD

SHREVEPORT, La. Secretary of State Kyle Ardoin invites the public to attend a book signing featuring local author James Ciaravella at the Louisiana State Exhibit Museum on Sunday, Oct. 24 from 2-4 p.m. Ciaravella’s book, “Charity’s Children – The Long Days and Nights of the Iron Men,” is based on his experiences in surgical training at Charity Hospital in New Orleans. “Charity Hospital was an institution, a way of life, it was a culture, and it had soul,” Dr. Ciaravella said. “I spent 11 years at Charity Hospital. It was tough because of what it demands—on yourself—you had tons of patients to take care of.”

Local residents and visitors will be able to meet the author and hear a review by O.A. “Duke” Griffey, III in the East Wing Auditorium. A native of Tulsa, Duke grew up in Shreveport where he retired as an adjunct professor from Centenary College’s Frost School of Business and as Executive Vice President of BancorpSouth in 2008.

The museum is located at 3015 Greenwood Road, Shreveport, La. 71109, between Hearne and Jewella streets. Admission is free and tours are available by appointment. All state-mandated COVID safety protocols will be in place and masks are required.
