MIDSUMMER’S MUSEUM CRAWL
June 22, 2018 @ 5:00 pm - 8:30 pm
$35.00
Three of Shreveport’s signature cultural institutions are inviting patrons to experience art in a new way this month with the first Midsummer Museum Crawl. On Friday, June 22, guests 21 and older can visit Centenary’s Meadows Museum of Art, the R.W. Norton Art Gallery, and the Louisiana State Exhibit Museum to enjoy visual art exhibits, curated culinary experiences from Drake Catering, signature cocktails from Wine Country Bistro, and live music. Tickets are $35 for a single and $60 for a couple.
“We created the Midsummer Museum Crawl as an immersive and interconnected event,” says Sean FitzGibbons, director of the Meadows Museum of Art. “We wanted to host a perfect summer date-night, one that encompasses not just art and music but also showcases a high-end local culinary artist and creative mixology. At its core, the event is a huge art-centric party that is also a show of solidarity within the Shreveport art community.”
The Meadows Museum will showcase artwork by Josh Chambers, Thom Johnson, and Paige Powell in Furthur, a mind-bending exhibition and installation experience. Live music by The Grasshopper Lies Heavy of San Antonio will entertain guests as they enjoy an absinthe, dry ice, and champagne cocktail and dessert from Blake Jackson of Whisk Dessert Bar.
At the R.W. Norton Art Gallery, Hunter Sloan’s solo photography exhibit, Inked, documents tattoos and the stories behind the ink. Museum Crawl guests can also view the Norton’s permanent collection along with another photography exhibit, Human, all accompanied by the sounds of local favorite Jazziana. Culinary offerings at this stop include hors d’oeuvres by Chef Blake Jackson and Wine Country Bistro’s take on the Springbokkie, a crème de menthe and Amarula cocktail shooter.
“The R.W. Norton Art Gallery is thrilled to be participating in the first ever Museum Crawl,” says Emily Feazel, designer of exhibits and special events at Norton. “This event is the perfect time for patrons to see the new Inked exhibit firsthand and enjoy a cocktail and nibbles from local eateries. It’s also a great opportunity for the museums of Shreveport to work together in a collaborative effort to showcase the arts in our beautiful city.”
The Louisiana State Exhibit Museum will feature Louisiana landscape artist Mary Louise Porter’s work and live music from Winston Hall, 2018 PRIDE Award Winner for Influencer of the Year. Ms. Porter will be on hand for a gallery talk and book signing.
Trolleys will rotate between the three museums every thirty minutes between 5:00 and 8:30 p.m. Patrons can start at any of the three locations and return via trolley.
