Talbot Hopkins and Julie Miller Exhibition
October 13, 2019 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Secretary of State Kyle Ardoin and the Friends of LSEM announce the opening of an extraordinary art exhibit of two of Shreveport’s most prominent local and regional artists – Julie Miller and Talbot Hopkins. The Exhibition of oil paintings and graphic works, will open on Sunday, October 13, 2019 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. with an artists’ reception. Light refreshments will be served.
Since childhood, Talbot Hopkins has produced portraits, still-lifes, landscapes, and abstract work in oil, watercolor, and other media. She completed art courses at Centenary College in Shreveport, Sophie Newcomb College/Tulane University, New Orleans and University of Texas, Austin.
According to Hopkins, “Art represents to me one of the greatest pursuits and achievements of mankind. I have always been drawn to human faces. Outside the realm of portraiture, my art consists mostly of still-lifes because they are realistic, yet possess a subtle degree of surrealism. I believe these pieces reflect my love of beauty–especially that found in nature–as well as a subconscious and conscious desire for peace and simplicity.”
Julie Miller first started painting in college, but decided to pursue a career and raise a family. Then she participated in workshops and studied with Robin Clawson and Dave Ivey. Julie’s interests include portraiture and architecture and now expansive landscapes. Her paintings are in private collections across the country.
The Talbot Hopkins and Julie Miller Exhibition will be on display in the West Wing Gallery from October 13, 2019 until Friday November 8, 2019. The public is invited to view the exhibit during regular museum hours: Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. The museum is located at 3015 Greenwood Road, between Hearne and Jewella Streets.
